Watched "Tiny Furniture" (finally") off netflix streaming.  Was bedridden with the flu and this was the perfect movie for such a state.

It is true I would have once said it was a rip off of Bujalski but many good things are a rip off of someone.

"Tiny Furniture" has so much to offer of its own.  Not to mention the formidable shooting location (a big white white loft was quite the resource here), the movie just makes me giggle with recognition.  It focuses on an about a week-long period in the life of a 20-something recent grad at loose ends, ostensibly suffering heartache from being dumped by a boyfriend who had bigger plans than her.

I did find comfort in the female lead's unconventional looks.  She is of course transformed by bold red lipstick and a cleverly designed outfit, but she is most interesting for the way she lets her hair just be dirty and tangly.

Seems the link for the red dress has disappeared! Thanks readers! How to lock in a link?

Beaver, Tony, Brenda--John Andrews!

I have put Tristram Shandy aside but finished Evelyn Waugh's A Handful of Dust. The end reminds me of movies such as Dogville: relentlessly dark, with a handful of jabbing jest. Delicious.

Today I heard someone say "Make Yourself at Home" is better than "Avatar". They are such different endeavors, but the person was talking about the story, not the special effects. Although what I love about certain films is the photography itself--and isn't that special?

Films I wanna see: Any new Mamet.
